OFF Leash Dog Parks and Beaches in the Illawarra

King George V Park, Port Kembla:
The off-leash section of this park is from the dog-leg section of Tobruk Ave to Cowper Street;

Figtree Park, Figtree:
The off-leash section is in between the oval and Byarong Creek.

Coniston Beach:
Dogs can go off the leash south of Bank Street all the way along to the breakwater wall. The best point of access is down Swan Street, through the golf course.

Riley Park, Unanderra:
The off-leash section is bordered by Central Rd and Ridley Avenue, up to Rose Parade.

Bellambi Point, Bellambi:
The off-leash area runs all the way from the boat ramp around to the first sewage outfall pipe.

Rules for Using Off Leash Areas

1. Be a competent person 16 years of age or over.
2. Be able to control the dog (by voice command or other means)
3. Remove and place dog faeces in a suitable bag and dispose of in an appropriate waste bin.
4. Restricted breeds, or dogs declared as dangerous, are not use this off leach area.
5. Dogs suffering from any contagious disease, skin irritation or parasitic infection to use this area.

NOTE: The owner of a dog is legally responsible if the dog attacks a person or animal. Please contact you local council or RSPCA for further details on dog restrictions.

Looking after our neglected or missing pets

As effective of Monday 1 June 2009 the Wollongong City Council Animal Shelter in Montague Street, North Wollongong has closed.
All impounded animals are now the responsibility of the RSPCA Illawarra Animal Welfare Centre, Industrial Road, Unanderra (Phone: 4271 3410).

Stray or roaming animals can still be reported to Council on 4227 7111, as well as other issues such as dog barking or restricted/dangerous breeds.
